After having a look at a castle from the Western world, let’s travel to the East and see a Japanese castle, and it’s one of the most famous ones: Osaka Castle (大阪城).
Japanese castle has a very unique architecture design. There is normally a main tower called Tensukaku (天守閣) and then some of the bigger castles would have several smaller towers. The towers are surrounded within a giant city wall and then most of them are further protected by an artificial river. While some of the castles were destroyed due to various reasons and became ruins. Most of them are actually quite well preserved and open to public.
The whole area of Osaka Castle is actually a very big park of about 15 acres with lots of both foreign and local visitors. It’s normally a place where you’d visit in the daytime but from last last year, there was a 3D illumination event held every evening during the winter period. During the event, the park has loads of light illumination decorations and the highlight of the show is a 3D light projection animation on the Tensukaku. The show ran every 30-40 minutes and lasted for about 10 minutes. It’s a really spectacular show which is a nice crossover between modern audio-visual technology and the traditional architecture.
