Our recently trip to Japan to see Cherry Blossom has reminded me a trip to Granada to visit Alhambra few years ago.
The picture in this post was taken there. At that time we thought these flowers were Cherry Blossom and we were very surprised to see so many of them there. Now after knowing a bit more on Cherry Blossom, I realised they were actually NOT Cherry Blossom.
They were Peach Blossom.
So what is the difference? Now comes a disclaimer first: I am not a flower expert and indeed, I am just sure that it is NOT Cherry Blossom and think it’s Peach Blossom. That’s the reason why I put a question mark in the subject of this post.
There are actually two distinct features in Cherry Blossom. First, a bud of Cherry Blossom normally have multiple flowers where in Peach Blossom, only one flower comes out from a bud. Second, there is a small split at the end of a Cherry Blossom petal and Peach Blossom petal does not have one.
Clearly the flower in this picture is not Cherry Blossom but why I am not 100% sure it’s a Peach Blossom? It’s because there is another similar species called Plum Blossom….
