A Luzzu is traditional fishing boat in the Maltese islands. They are painted in very bright colours and sometimes with a pair of eyes at the bow. It is believed that the design of the boat date back to the ancient Phoenician times (1200 – 539 B.C.) and it’s durability has survived the test of time. In the past the boat was equipped with sail and used wind power. Nowadays most of them are equipped with motors.
To find Luzzu, one must go to Marsaxlokk, a fishing village in southeast Malta. It is a 40 minute bus ride from Valletta, the capital of Malta. Since it’s fishing village, the best cuisine you can find there will course be fish dish and I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.
