The most distinguished feature of the interior is that there is not a single painting there. Yet you will still see a lot of pictures and they are all “painted” with colourful mosaics. According to the descriptions from a tour book, there are 308 mosaics with a total area of 6,560 square metres. Sketches of the mosaics were made by a group of over 25 artists from Russia and also a number of foreign firms.
This picture shows mosaic on the central dome, named Christ, the Pantocrator and was designed by Nikolai Kharlamov. He was also the designer of 41 other mosaics in the cathedral.
