Yesterday I posted a picture of the delicious Uni Don as a response to this week’s photo challenge “Reward”. Actually the reward is a lot more than that and I think it’d be criminal not to show you the place where we had this wonderful Uni Don.
Rishiri Island is a nearly perfect oval island with the extinct volcano Mount Rishiri sitting right in the middle. People sometimes refer Mount Rishiri to Rishiri Fuji because it looks like a mini version of the Japanese icon Mount Fuji. Because it is right at the middle, it can be seen virtually anywhere on the island but I think Otatomari Marsh is probably one of the best (if not the best) location to see it (and take picture).
Otatomari Marsh is near the southern bank of the island and because it’s far away from the ferry port, it can only be reached by car or the sightseeing bus. When we arrived there weren’t a lot of people and before our tastebud was rewarded by the famous Uni Don, our eyes were first treated by a serene and peaceful lake (it looked like a lake more than a marsh!) with the Mount Rishiri as the perfect backdrop. It was cloudy and so the tip of Mount Rishiri was covered in cloud but such little imperfection didn’t stop us from pressing the shutter button repeatedly to capture this beauty of nature.
What’s better than relaxing in such a wonderful environment? Having Uni Don certainly was!
