I think train station is actually a very good subject of black and white photography. Train station is a place where there is a lot parting occurs, whether it’s for a wonderful holiday trip or a depressing farewell of friends. Black and white helps to enhance the feeling of parting especially if the train station is largely deserted.
Arashiyama Station is the terminal station of the Hankyu Arashiyama Line which is a very short local rail line (around 4.1km) in Kyoto. Arashiyama is one of the most popular area in Kyoto for sakura viewing in Spring and maple trees viewing in Autumn. The Hankyu Arashiyama line is connected to the Kyoto main line at the Katsura station and it is one of the most popular way to go to Arashiyama from Kyoto or Osaka.
The platform of the station is very short and so only short local trains run on this line. Therefore it can be very crowded at peak hours and you may wonder how I took this picture. The answer is I actually took this when I arrived the station in the morning and I just waited for everyone to drop off and leave the platform. Since there weren’t a lot of people leaving there in the morning, the station was very quiet.
