I didn’t post a lot of black/white pictures in this blog mainly because this is a travel themed blog and you won’t see too much travel photos in black/white. Yet today I’ve read a post from one of followed bloggers about photography and it’s about black and white photography. It aroused my interest and so I decided to turn this blog into a colourless world in the next couple of posts.
At first I tried to find some pictures which are “normally” suitable for black and white (e.g. an abandoned place, an old village, etc.). Then as I looked through my collection, I came across the night shot pictures that I did in Tokyo a couple of years ago. I haven’t seen a lot of night shots in black and white and so I asked myself – why not give it a try?
I turned this picture into black and white using the Nik’s Collection Silver Efex Pro plug-ins for PS. I used the “Full Contrast and Structure” preset to greatly enhance the contrast and then do some local fine tuning to the sky (as the default preset will “light up” the sky – revealing the “digital stars”: Noise). It was really easy and Silver Efex Pro is just magical.
As a comparison, I have put the original colour picture at the top right corner. What do you think? Which one do you like more? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
