This theme of this week’s photo challenge is “Sea“. It won’t be difficult for me because I like sea and I’ve got loads of pictures of it. The challenge did make me think deeper as it is not just asking about a beautiful postcard-like picture, but more on the underlying feelings about the sea. I looked around my collection and I think this one from Greenland may fit the bill quite well.
This picture was taken when we were on a boat trip from Tasillaq to see a glacier (You can find another picture of that trip here). It was August and so there was a lot of floating ice in the sea. Our boat was, well, really a small boat and while the weather was good and the water was calm, I was actually a bit worried as we passed through such a large group of floating ice. Of course I knew while the boat looked ordinary, it was designed and built for that kind of situation. Yet as the large blocks of ice crushed onto the boat frequently, I really wished we wouldn’t hear any cracking noise!
At the end we had a safe journey and all worry were swept away as we saw the beautiful glacier and icebergs. Having said that, I still remembered the “fear” I had deep in my heart and it was quite an experience.
