After seeing the sea of clouds from our hotel room early in the morning, we went out and took the gondola trip to where we were supposed to see the sea of clouds – the Unkai Terrace. On that day the cloud was not high enough and in fact the sky had started to clear a bit. Therefore while it was still a excellent view from the terrace, it was nowhere like what we saw on postcards.
Feeling a bit disappointed, I looked around and then I saw the Sun. As it was after 5am already, the Sun had risen completely already but with “layers” of mountains at the backdrop and the morning clouds, the view was really magnificent. Of course the lighting condition was tricky but as I know Photoshop can fix them, I just went for some under-exposed shots (it’s easier to fix under-exposure) with different compositions. It is one of my most favourite pictures in the whole trip.
Oh yes I mentioned postcard above. One interesting thing about the Unkai Terrace is you get a postcard of the Unkai Terrace when you board the gondola. Then on the Terrace, there is a postbox where you can mail the postcard to anywhere in the world for free! As the postcard is not on sale anywhere, it serves as a “certificate” for being there!
