Macro photography is an extremely difficult type of photography. A slight camera shake has a magnifying effect and can ruin everything. The depth of view is so shallow that you need to have a small aperture. Exposure is very tricky and very much depends on your subject. Yet, I think an ultra sharp, nicely composed and perfectly exposed macro picture can be as stunning as a picture of the universe.
Earlier I have posted my most favourite picture from my Keukenhof photo trip. Indeed in that trip I had spent a lot of time shooting close-ups of the stamina of the flowers. It was close to impossible to get a good one because I did not have a tripod (there were too many people there). Yet I did have a portable Joby Gorillapod and I anchored it with the camera on my chest to form a “human tripod”. Still I did not get too many successful shots and in terms of focus and exposure, this picture is the best one although the composition is not great.
I still remember after shooting those close-ups for more than 2 hours, I was extremely exhausted and my hands were shaking involuntarily for a long while!
