Lake Kawakuchi is a resort area near Mount Fuji, the highest mountain and one of the national icons in Japan. It is also the second largest lake of the Fuji Five Lakes which were formed in the last eruption of Mount Fuji. It is very convenient to go there from city centre with a direct high speed bus from Shinjuku and the journey is less than 2 hours.
We had a day trip there and hoped to shoot some good pictures of Mount Fuji. The weather was a bit unpredictable with light showers at one time and then sunshine in the next minute. Also there were scattered groups of cloud wondering around Mount Fuji and so the we couldn’t see it very clearly.
This picture was taken at the coastline at the northern part of the lake. The sky had cleared a bit and so we had a sharper view of the mountain. Also with the sun rays emitting from the surrounding clouds, it was quite a dramatic view. Originally I wanted to name this post as “Mount Fuji” but actually the mountain is more like a backdrop of the picture and instead the subject seems to be the lake itself. So I changed my mind and use the lake name as the subject.
