We saw this huge glacier in a boat trip arranged by the hotel we stayed in Tasiilaq, a small town in the East coast of Greenland. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t capture the grandness of the scenery and so I included our companion boat in the scene as a size reference. It’s just one part of the glacier though.
If you watch any documentary on Greenland or glacier in general, you will probably see a footage of ice blocks falling from the glacier because of melting – to illustrate the impact of global warming. We did see one melting incident there but I was too slow to take a picture. Actually I am not too sure if global warming has anything to deal with it because after all it’s summer and some of the ice will melt anyway. Maybe it melts faster now but no matter what, the scenery is very beautiful and this alone can be a very good reason for people to protect it.
Before our trip, we talked to a Danish guy when having breakfast. I asked him what activities he had joined and amazingly, he said he was coming for business! A business trip on Greenland was pretty cool so I asked him what business he was doing. It turns out he was an engineer and he was coming to do a regular checks on boats. Indeed, after breakfast, he would go to check the boat that WE were going to use that day. Man, it’s a really important business!!
